Love is the air for the couples as aged care facility turns romantic

This is what excites me about the staff at some of our aged care homes.

Last Thursday, Lifeview Willow Wood in Cranbourne West, 40km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, turned its café into a fine dining restaurant to provide a ‘magic moment’ for the seven couples who live in the home.

Re-named ‘L’amour’ for the evening, residents were welcomed to the restaurant by staff dressed in black and white uniforms, then sat down to a special three-course meal, featuring dishes such as Smoked Salmon and Duck, Frenched Lamb Cutlets and Crème Brulee, prepared by Chef and Hospitality Manager, Stephen Milsted, and accompanied by fine wines.

“The true magic of the event appeared as the residents arrived at the restaurant, their eyes lighting up and even some tears of joy were shed,” said Lifeview’s Social Support Manager, Annitta Macauley.

The ambience of the room was one of opulence, which was only heightened by the joy of the residents.

“I haven’t seen my wife’s face light up like that in the longest time,” said resident Colin Cherry.

A practising aged care physiotherapist for the past 13 years, Jill has worked in more than 50 metropolitan and regional aged care homes. She has also toured care facilities across the US and Africa. She is a passionate advocate for both the residents in aged care and the staff that serve them.
