Often there is pressure to get mum or dad into an aged care home. Maybe they have had a sudden illness or fall or you have simply realised that they are not coping at home any longer.
But it does take time to organise an aged care place – we tell people it will take 13 weeks from starting your search to moving your family member into a facility.
It sounds like a long time, but it’s worth following every step to make sure you get the best result for your parent.

Of course there are exceptions. In some urgent cases, your loved one can move into an aged care home as soon as they have received their Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) report.
You will then have to pay a daily fee until you do an income and assets test to determine if you’re eligible for the Federal Government to contribute to the cost of care.
