The calendar is the brainchild of 54-year-old Perth model Pamela Jackson, who was inspired by the Academy award-winning 2014 film ‘Still Alice’.
The film tells the story of a linguistics professor who is diagnosed with familial Alzheimer’s disease shortly after her 50th birthday.
“I remember sitting in the cinema thinking: this is a woman around my age suddenly learning to live with such a debilitating and life-changing illness. It really hit home. I had to do something,” Ms Jackson said.
She enlisted the help of friends and colleagues from Perth’s modelling industry, along with local photographer David Broadway, to create a series of photographs with a 1940s theme for the calendar.
It’s being funded by aged care provider Rosewood, which has aged care homes in Leederville and West Perth, in partnership with the Crown and National Australia Bank with all proceeds being donated to Alzheimer’s WA.
With over 500,000 Australians expected to be living with dementia by 2025, it’s great to see our aged care providers getting behind this important cause.
The calendar will be launched at a high tea event on Sunday, October 29 at Crown Towers, Burswood by AFL champion and former West Coast Eagle Glen Jakovich whose mother Mary had the disease.
Tickets to the high tea are $50 and can be purchased online here.
Calendars are $20 and can be purchased online, at the event or from Alzheimer’s WA.
