Just no: Smith’s releases lamington-flavoured chips

0

It’s not a joke. The British-Australian company best known for its potato chips is unleashing a new flavour on 1 January 2020 – and it’s got a distinctively Australian flavour (literally).

With hints of chocolate, coconut, cream and butter (you’re not selling me here), the limited-edition chips are apparently the result of extensive testing (lamington consumption) – and Smith’s thinks Australians will get on board with the flavour combo.

“We know Australians are increasingly keen to try new flavours, and interest is growing in sweet and savoury combinations,” Smith’s marketing director, Olivia Sutherland said.

Smith’s is not immune to unusual flavours – releasing other flavours including garlic bread and Peking duck, tomato sauce and gravy – but unsurprisingly, many Aussies – myself included – are doubtful the new chip will be a hit.

“Is this a very early or very late April 1st joke?” one social media user asked.

Sadly no – so expect to see these unholy creations at your local Woolies plus some independent supermarkets and petrol stations in the New Year.
