Founded by 84-year-old Fumie Takino 20 years ago, this clip shows Japan PomPom’s latest performance in the Japanese Nationals competition.

The American sport has been popular in Japan for the last 30 years, mostly in schools and universities.

Ms Takino took it up after her marriage ended and she completed a master’s degree in gerontology in the US.

Returning home, she saw a professional cheerleading performance which “blew my mind,” she says.

Today, her troupe has 28 members. The only requirement? You have to be 55 plus.

Catch their performance here.
