It’s true. Residents of Welsh suburb, Robin Hood’s Bay, were surprised to be ushered along the streets and told to ‘go home’ by Daleks this week.
The infamous ‘Doctor Who’ enemies were released into villages to dish out social distancing commands – to those who had either forgotten or dismissed the UK’s strict guidelines.
The UK imposed a full-blown lockdown more than two weeks ago, requiring all citizens to stay inside and self-isolate, unless picking up food or urgent medical supplies, among other essential reasons.
“By order of the Daleks, all humans must stay indoors, all humans must self-isolate,” the robots ordered.
Although not quite as threatening as its usual “Exterminate!” command, the robots were enough to render some residents into a state of submissive compliance.
It’s not known who was behind the stunt, which brought reactions ranging from humour to outright fear, as memories of scenes from the classic sci-fi series were recalled.
“Am I the only one to feel a genuine shiver of fear watching this? As a child I would most certainly have been hiding behind the sofa. And if a Cyberman came marching down the road, that would be it, I’d be running for my life!” one person wrote on Twitter.
Agreed – I, for one, am staying well behind the sofa.
