Well, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
In August, we flagged the fact that Australia would be facing an unusually busy magpie season, partly because of the native bird struggling to recognise people in face masks.
Now the numbers are officially in – and this year to date, more than 4,600 Australians have been attacked by magpies.
About 87 per cent of the reported attacks have been harmless, but at least 600 have resulted in some kind of injury to the person involved.
So, who’s been most at risk?
Well the breakdown shows 70 per cent of those injured were cyclists, five per cent were runners and two per cent were out walking the dog.
Just when you thought it was safe to go outside again!
