Italian police use Lamborghini to transport donor kidney almost 500km in just two hours

Normally police are doing everything they can to stop speeding.

But in Italy, they do things a little bit differently.

The Italian State Police have used a Lamborghini Huracan, a sportscar with a 5.2-litre, 602-horsepower V10 engine, to transport a donor kidney from Rome to Padua, a journey of 489km, in just over two hours.

Seeing police screaming down the highway in a souped-up sports car seems like it would be a bizarre site, but it’s apparently not altogether uncommon in Italy.

The police reportedly were able to deliver the donor kidney to Gemelli University Hospital with plenty of time to spare (at an average speed of 233km/hour).

Some brief calculations using Google Maps suggest the trip would have taken at least five hours if they were travelling to normal speed limits.

It’s hard to condone speeding, but in this case at least it was for a good cause.
