International Nurses Day: “nurses do more than toileting, showering and pill-popping”

0

To mark International Nurses Day today, the Sydney Morning Herald has run a fantastic opinion piece by registered nurse Belinda Clough.

In it, she talks about how nursing is so often dismissed as a “menial” job – despite the fact almost all of us will need a nurse at some stage of our life.

“This is reflected in our salaries, at the very least,” she writes. “Although nurses now complete a university degree and often extensive extra training, to many we don’t qualify as experts in a field.”

Nurses – especially those working in aged care – are some of the lowest paid workers in our country. They don’t do their job for the money – they do it because they care.

Why not take the time today to say thank you?
