Passive infra-red sensors learn the resident’s normal day-to-day activity and alerts family members if there is a noticeable change, for example, if a resident is normally up by 8am, but there has been no movement in the living area by 10am.
Residents also receive a wearable GPS-enabled personal emergency pendant that is monitored 24-7 and an Emergency Alert Dialer in their apartment that can include a Voice Panic Detector that can be activated if the person can’t physically push the Dialer or their pendant for whatever reason.
It’s impressive technology, but there are similar devices and services that you can access at home or in your retirement village to keep you living independently longer.
Australian company INS has a range that includes personal/medical alarms, movement monitoring systems and a Telehealth service that records health information and send it to a nurse for monitoring.
