House prices may be absurd at the moment – but if you’re looking for a downsizing bargain, there’s half a house for sale in Wollongong with your name on it.
No, we don’t mean sharing the house with someone else: we mean literally half a house. The iconic “Half House of Wollongong”, as seen above, is a one-bedroom home in Warrawong with living room, bathroom, galley-style kitchen, outdoor lavatory, workshop and storage room.
According to the agents at First National Real Estate, there are many stories about how it came to be – but none that can be verified.
“The home was originally built back in the 1950s and had an original plan that consisted of 3 bedrooms, living/dining and kitchen, but the reason why it was never completed is still unconfirmed.
“This is the second time this iconic home has been put on the market, with the first time being back in January 1996,” the listing reads.
The half house is going under the auctioneer’s hammer on 8 October and is tipped to sell for around $500,000 – but sadly, its run-down interior means it’s probably more suited for the wrecker’s ball than for human habitation.
We just hope whoever buys the half house doesn’t have to pay full price.
