High school students play Santa to Central Coast village and nursing home residents

Local high school technology students have spent two weeks creating ‘padpod’ pillows for seniors at Adventist Senior Living’s Avondale Lifestyle Community in Cooranbong.

The brainchild of Avondale School Technology teacher Tarlae Bradford, the pillows allow residents to keep an iPad or a book stable and at a comfortable angle to read while sitting or even lying down.

“Many of our residents have contributed their whole lives to our community,” Diversional Therapist Lindl Webster said, “so it is truly fantastic that our local school community have been able give back just a little at Christmas time.”

“Our residents often spend time with a book or exploring the world on our facility iPads, so they will certainly enjoy the ongoing convenience of these little padpod pillows.”

Teacher Jenny Merriman, says students loved the opportunity to play ‘Santa to a senior’ as part of their school service program at this time of year, and adds that much thought went into the bright colours chosen for the padpods.

“Students worked really hard to capture through colour that special feeling of joy and love at Christmas”, she said.

It just goes to show the holiday spirit is still alive and well.
