Happy Mother’s Day to everyone

To all the mothers out there, we hope you have a wonderful day on Sunday as we tip our caps to the wonderful gesture from Greenacres Disability Services, North Wollongong, whose garden crew is delivering more than 1,200 pot plants as surprise Mother’s Day gifts to IRT retirement village residents throughout NSW and the ACT.

The kind act brought smiles and laughter from residents at IRT Tarrawanna Gardens in the northern suburbs of Wollongong on the NSW South Coast.

“This was a huge project for our Community Connect volunteers and the IRT gardeners and they managed to complete it with help from the team at Greenacres Enterprises,” said Greenacres Disability Services on its Facebook page.

“Congratulations to everyone involved. Thank you also to Bunnings for generously donating the pots. Now to the fun part of delivering them to all the lovely mothers!”

The Greenacres gardeners have been working with IRT Facilities Management since November last year to propagate the plants, including geraniums, succulents, money plant, pig face, fire stick and coleus, with cuttings sourced from IRT aged care centre gardens in the Illawarra.

“It’s been a great project, we have learnt so much like how to propagate plants and what kind of soil to use,” said gardening crew member Nathan Jeffrey, who added the recipients were special.

“If it wasn’t for mothers we wouldn’t be here,” he said.
