The Multilingual Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line has been launched for older Australians who don’t speak English or speak it as a second language to keep them informed about critical COVID-19 health advice.

The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing is rolling out the project, which is funded by the Australian Department of Health and includes six 1800 phone lines in different languages: Greek, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese and Italian.

  • 1800 549 844 – Italian
  • 1800 549 845 – Greek
  • 1800 549 846 – Vietnamese
  • 1800 549 847 – Mandarin
  • 1800 549 848 – Cantonese
  • 1800 549 849 – Arabic

Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing Manager Lisa Tribuzio said the project will ensure the same level of access to aged care and health advice for all older Australians, no matter their background.

“It is incredibly important to addressing the digital and literacy barriers that we know many people from CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) backgrounds face,” Ms Tribuzio said.
