Good news for residents and families: 90 per cent of aged care complaints being resolved within 30 days

There were 892 residential care complaints around Australia – most from families and representatives – in the last quarter according to the latest National Bulletin from the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner.

Another 282 complaints were made regarding home care packages while 9 regarded flexible and community care services.

On the face of it, the numbers don’t sound positive – but think about this.

Most complaints easily resolved

Of the total 1,183 complaints received nationally, 1,139 were resolved without further action needing to be taken.

That leaves just 44 complaints across the country that required a follow-up.

While this should ideally be zero, when you consider that we have over 190,000 people in residential care – and another million Australians receiving home care – it’s a good result.

Families and carers can also be reassured that if they do have an issue, it is being taken seriously – and their provider will work quickly to resolve the problem.

The stories about aged care complaints you see splashed across the papers really are few and far between.
