You have a voice in aged care – with Government support

Nine different organisations (usually state based) deliver support and a voice for people in the aged care system.

The Federal Government has opened funding for advocacy providers to deliver services in the first step towards creating a national program and the nine different organisations have formed the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) in response.

“The government knows we will speak up when we see things are not working well and we will do that at whatever level,” Fiona May, CEO of the A.C.T. Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service (ADACAS) says.

More streamlined services

So how will this help you?

These providers work one-on-one with older people and their families, particularly vulnerable groups, to help them understand their aged care options – and have their voice heard.

They also assess and report on government-funded nursing homes’ performances.

Under the changes, the Commonwealth will now provide around $25.7 million over three years from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2020.

Good news for residents and their families.
