Doritos says it’s making a female-friendly chip – women say no

PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi said the company was developing a ‘purse-friendly’ line of Doritos products with less ‘crunch’ after pointing out that men and women ate their famous corn chips in different ways.

“As you watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth,” she said.

“Women I think would love to do the same, but they don’t. They don’t like to crunch too loudly in public.”

But women were outraged by the idea – myself included.

PepsiCo has since backpedalled, saying the reporting was inaccurate.

“We already have Doritos for women – they’re called Doritos, and they’re enjoyed by millions of people every day. At the same time, we know needs and preferences continue to evolve and we’re always looking for new ways to engage and delight our consumers.”

How about delighting us by not engaging in sexist stereotypes?

I don’t know any woman who wouldn’t eat the crumbs at the bottom of the bag.
