Project Wing – part of Google’s parent company, Alphabet – has been trialling drone delivery of food, drinks and other supplies for the last 18 months (you might remember seeing they delivered burritos last year).
But now it’s officially been given the green light.
The world-first sky high delivery business has been granted approval to run in the ACT after confirmation that it wouldn’t cause any public safety or traffic issues.
It will start with just 100 lucky homes across the Canberra suburbs of Crace, Palmerston and Franklin over the coming weeks.
It’s now predicted that the drones could be delivering more than one in four takeaway food orders (and up to 6 per cent of all purchases) in the ACT by 2030 – and boost local businesses by $30 to $40 million.
We have to admit though; all we want to know is: when can we have it?
