Yes, it’s true. The hardware chain is running free pop-up clinics at several Victorian stores this weekend thanks to a partnership with the local primary health network and vaccination provider Vaccin8@work.
Funded by the Victorian Government, the Bunnings vaccines were allocated before a national shortage saw remaining doses quarantined for more vulnerable groups including the elderly.
So why Bunnings?
The Network wants to target middle-aged men – the hardest group to vaccinate – and they say it does work.
A recent clinic at the Wagga Bunnings saw over 400 people vaccinated – and the Network expects the prospect of grabbing a flu shot alongside the sausage sizzle will attract similar numbers.
There has been a 30 per cent increase in demand for flu vaccinations this year – prompting the Department of Health to order 800,000 extra vaccines which will be available from later this month.
But doctors say it’s not impossible to get a shot now – just call your GP or local pharmacy to check their supplies.
Of course, if you’re keen for a snag, you can book for the Bunnings clinic at Altona on 2 June here and the Broadmeadows store on 3 June here.
