Dead for a day: South Koreans fake their own death at living funerals

0

A South Korean healing centre is offering mass “living funeral” services thought to improve life by simulating death.

The trend at the Hyowon Healing Center in Seoul involves people arriving clad in traditional funeral clothing, snapping funeral portraits and laying in closed coffins.

More than 25,000 people have faked their own funerals at the centre since it opened in 2012.

Though it may appear morbid, the practice is believed to improve your appreciation for life and seek forgiveness from loved ones for wrongdoings.

The service is of particular relevance in South Korea, which is in the grip of a mental health crises with a suicide rate almost double the global average.
