Yes, it’s real.
The Legal Services Commission of South Australia has received $581,000 in funding from the Federal Government to design a user-friendly app and online portal that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to guide couples through a divorce or separation instead of the traditional legal dispute.
The technology takes the information entered by users about their dispute and then compares it against previous cases before suggesting a division of assets.
And while it’s not intended to totally replace legal services, the platform provides a starting point for a resolution that is fair and checked against court-accepted outcomes.
The Commission says it’s even built in ‘natural language’ which will block a user who gets too upset or aggressive in the dispute (no cursing allowed!) – while someone trying to claim an excessive level of assets won’t be able to move forward until they change to a more reasonable request (we think that could be a serious sticking point).
Hopefully you won’t need to use this tech any time soon – but you’ve got to admit, it’s impressive!
