Consuming the equivalent of a rasher of bacon a day could increase risk of dementia

It’s bad news for sausage sizzle lovers!

New research from the University of Leeds in the UK has found consuming an average of 25 grams of processed meat a day can increase a person’s risk of dementia by up to 44%.

Processed meats include items like sausages, bacon or salami – the tastiest ones!

The study also found there was a link between unprocessed red meat, such as beef, veal and pork, and the reduction of the risk of “all-cause dementia”.

The same consumption of processed meat was also found to increase a person’s risk of suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease later in life.

Although we should note that this was an observational study, which means a true link couldn’t be identified but merely theorised.

Phew! There is still hope then for the beloved sanga.
