Most of us don’t appreciate the geographic size of China. Its northern point is parallel with Holland and its southern most point is parallel to the Philippines. Beijing can be measured against Paris.
A haven for Chinese retirees
This means large swathes of the country are bitterly cold for much of the year so where do retirees go for holidays? The answer is their own version of our Gold Coast, called Sanya, a town of 500,000 people that receives 500,000 retirees a year – who stay for up to six months at a time.
It’s located on the southern tip of the island of Hainan, a couple of hundred kilometres across the ocean from Vietnam. As you can see, dancing on the beach is one of the major highlights. No ‘Schoolies’.
