In this week’s edition of World’s Most Understandable Actions, a Chilean worker has promptly resigned and dropped off the face of the Earth after accidentally being paid more than 300 times his salary.
The unnamed dispatch assistant at cold meats company CIAL Alimentos was given 165,398,851 Chilean pesos (or $250,173.21 AUD) in his monthly May pay packet, instead of his actual salary of 500,000 Chilean pesos (or $755.84) – in other words, about 330 times his monthly wage.
Though he promised to go to the bank and return the excess money the next day, the worker instead did what many of us would be tempted to do and disappeared completely, pausing only to send a letter of resignation via his attorney before running off to parts unknown.
While the company has filed charges against him for misappropriating the funds, no arrests have been made and he hasn’t been heard from since… and frankly, who can blame him?
