Cheers! This Japanese snack bar caters exclusively to senior customers and aged care residents

Bar owner Sasaki Takaya wanted to make ‘having a good time’ accessible to everyone – so he opened Ryūgūjō, a snack bar in Kanagawa (an hour outside of Tokyo) designed entirely for patrons aged over 65.

The patrons are all residents in a local aged care home, so everything about the bar has been designed to be completely older-person-friendly – from handrails and wheelchair accessible bathrooms, to tables that are bolted to the floor to avoid falls or injuries.

Transportation is even provided to the patrons to get them between their home and the venue safely – and nurses, qualified carers and physiotherapists are available at all times.

Sasaki says his team always makes sure they talk to family members and staff from the aged care facility to make sure the venue is appropriate for the residents and meets their specific needs.

Just goes to show you’re never too old to enjoy a night out (especially in Japan!)
