Celebrating a milestone: retirement village residents make 400 wraps for international charity Wrap With Love

Members of the ‘Chat and Craft’ group at The Laurels retirement village in Mt Barker celebrated the achievement with an afternoon tea in the village’s community centre.

Since 1992, Wrap With Love has provided over 400,000 wraps to people in over 75 countries –including Australia.

Resident Dorothy Heath started knitting squares back in 2008 and was quickly joined by others for weekly knitting afternoons – the group has since completed over 11,200 squares.

Dorothy said knowing the wraps go to those who need them most was very satisfying.

“On a trip to Ethiopia in 2012 I visited a hospital and saw two young mothers with a colourful, knitted wrap swathing their tiny twin babies, which I found very touching,” she said.

A fantastic effort.
