It could almost be a short movie as it has a happy Hollywood ending. A heavily pregnant cat became stuck on the awning of a fifth-floor apartment in Darwin in the Northern Territory.
A resident said she went to feed her friend’s cat before going to work when she heard purring in the feline’s room – but she was unable to find the cat, which was heavily pregnant.
The cat had clawed through flywire and jumped out onto the awning and began meowing for help.
“I heard the meowing and looked out the window and she was on the windowsill. She’d been there for a few hours, I tried to make a ladder for her to climb up then called the fire brigade,” said the resident.
The fire brigade said it was unable to help and the cat’s owner recalled seeing a crane in the area. The cat owner got the number of the crane business which later came to the rescue.
“She was quite terrified, panting on the ledge with nowhere to go,” the resident said.
“She must have been looking for somewhere to have them (kittens).”
The cat was taken down in the crane and she later gave birth to five healthy kittens – a purr-fect ending.
