The fallout from Brexit has hit the UK and its economy hard. Now the UK Government has come up with a plan to save the nation: exporting beer, tea and scones.
The ‘International Action Plan for Food and Drink’ names 18 countries to which it plans to export classic British fare.
Australia and New Zealand are top of the target list, with an extra £293 million ($469 million) in exports in the next five years – mostly of beer and cider.
They also hope to export £185 million ($296 million) of beef and products like tea, jam and biscuits to Japan.
The news prompted a huge number of Tweets from people who could see some flaws in the strategy:
We have to agree. Selling English beer to the Aussies? Good luck with that.
