Bridging the divide: aged care provider tackles social isolation with intergenerational playgroup

0

West Australian not-for-profit Bethanie has been running the playgroup at their Gwelup aged care facility every second Friday since February and sees young children and their parents enjoy activities and playtime with the residents.

The group is the brainchild of local mum Belinda Andrews, who had attended a similar group at the home where her grandfather was being supported, and felt it was a wonderful way to visit him.

Social isolation is a well-known risk factor for depression and anxiety – and you don’t need to be living alone to experience it – so it’s great to see providers getting behind projects like this.

The group is free to attend and you can do so by contacting Belinda on 0421 319 499.
