You have a big ‘Recreational Vehicle’ and big dreams of the long loop around Australia – where ‘ya gonna live’? An RV community of course.
Research by McCrindle has shown 19 per cent of us become ‘grey nomads’ as we grow older – or at least aspire to be.
Now Land Lease Communities (LLCs) are building homes to cater to this dream – with huge garages designed for recreational vehicles (RVs), caravans and boats.
Also known as ‘manufactured home estates’, ‘resort communities’ and ‘lifestyle communities’, LLC’s have grown out of the old caravan parks around Australia.
Unlike retirement villages, you buy your home but lease the land that the home sits on.
The houses are affordable too – a typical two-bedroom house costs around $300,000 – though some larger properties can top $1 million in Queensland.
Hitting the open road
RV Homebase on Queensland’s Fraser Coast has been specifically designed for ‘grey nomads’ with each of its homes featuring an attached, enclosed garage, the average size around 16 metres by 6 metres.
Just near Hervey Bay, Gold-Coast-based company AHC is currently building a $60 million LLC with 212 RV-friendly homes at Howard.
And in Gladstone in Queensland’s north, a group of locals have just put forward plans for a $300 million RV-friendly village – complete with golf course designed by Graham Marsh.
These communities aren’t just in Queensland either – Land Lease Living lists 48 communities across NSW, many RV-friendly.
