Residents at Freedom Aged Care Banora Point have let their hair down at the village’s annual Casino Night – despite this story here that alleged Aveo was “spruiking” the event to celebrate its success.
The village operator has recently been under fire in the Fairfax Media over its Freedom Aged Care model, which provides an optional care service to its residents if they need more support to stay out of residential care.
But Banora Point’s residents have been quick to fight back, with Shirley Redwood, Chairperson of the Residents’ Committee informing Fairfax that the night – which was organised by the Resident Activities Coordinator and onsite team – was not “in celebration of anything” and simply a chance for residents to get together and have fun.
“It is a social fun night which is run at our Village here at Banora Point every twelve months or so,” she wrote. “We have had four such nights in recent years. And the residents are ALWAYS ready to party.”
With a 1960’s theme for this year’s event, they certainly got into the swing of it.
One of the residents from the community’s men’s shed group made a cardboard cut-out of a Kombi van for residents to pose for happy snaps in their fancy dress, while The Sting Gaming provided the ‘casino’ where residents could play the blackjack and roulette tables to win prizes.
