Australian research just in: older age is all about us and not the kids’ inheritance

Our sister company, DCM Research, just asked 2,207 people aged 60 and older what are their needs in retirement.

The answer: independence and control over our lives!

What does this mean? The research told us that people don’t want uncertainty about what lies ahead and with that the possibility that others may control them.

Most of all they want a secure home with no worries, that they can make their own. With COVID now a reality, the research found 45% of people are now looking for a safe haven, like a retirement village, where the staff keep the village safe from unknown outsiders and yet you still have neighbours who you know – and who are COVID safe and aware.

Also interesting is the fact that the least important ‘need’ was maximising the inheritance to be left for the family! This matches up with need No. 3: the desire to age with ‘grace, dignity and joy’.

Sounds great.
