59 year old long-distance swimmer, Rick Seirer, will attempt to be the oldest person to complete a non-stop (68km) double-crossing of the English Channel in early August.
The Channel is considered the Everest of endurance swimming, famous for its distance, strong tides, cold water and unpredictable weather, with waves that can reach up to two meters.
In August, starting the swim in Dover, Rick will swim to Calais and return to Dover without a break.
It is expected to take up to 30 hours to complete.
For two years, Rick from Maryborough, Victoria, has been training up to 70km a week in water temperatures as low as 10°C.
Rick says, “I want to inspire people, regardless of their age, to challenge themselves, set new goals and take risks. There is an 82-year-old at our local swimming club who inspires me every day.
We think he’s special already, so go get that record Rick!
