This week the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, presented the Medal of the Order of Australia (General Division) to Group Captain Leslie James Armstrong CSC (Retd).

The honour is recognition of the advocacy work Les has carried out on behalf of the residents of retirement villages across Queensland for the past 10 years.

As President of the Association of Residents of Queensland Retirement Villages (ARQRV) Les has been known to be a selfless and prodigious worker, travelling across the state meeting residents, village operators, bureaucrats and politicians. His grasp of the legislation, balanced by his appreciation of village residents and village operators has made him a respected touchstone of wisdom.

Les joined the air force at the age of 16 and retired with the rank of Group Captain (the equivalent of Colonel in the army). He saw active service in Malaya and Vietnam.

He was named in the Australia Day Honours list after his nomination by retirement village residents in Queensland.
