The finalists for the third annual art competition run by the Knowles family’s Arcare Aged Care for its 47 residential homes in NSW, QLD and VIC have been chosen.

Launched in July, close to 100 paintings, sketches, watercolour, original photos and craft projects were submitted to this year’s competition by Arcare residents.

The four winning submissions will be used for Arcare’s Christmas and All Occasion greeting cards in 2022-2023.

The finalists, ranging from 71 to 97 years old, went through an internal selection by the Card Art Competition team and the top designs were narrowed down for voting.

Some of the finalists include Maree Fields from Arcare Maroochydore QLD, Maureen Lauer from Arcare Hillside VIC, Shirley Parmenter from Arcare Seven Hills QLD, Sydney Coddington at Arcare Oatlands NSW.

Maree, 86, has been painting her whole life. She taught herself how to paint by observing her grandmother.

“Painting is in my blood and always has been,” she said.

“When I am painting, I am tranquil; it is a form of meditation for me,” said Maureen, 80 (pictured), who started painting at age 60.

“I’m thrilled to enter into the competition as I feel a part of something bigger than me.”

Arcare Aged Care CEO Colin Singh said the art competition is still achieving its aim of creating a sense of pride, accomplishment and excitement among the residents.

Voting closes on 24th August and the winners will be announced on 29th August.
