The President’s controversial decision to withdraw the US from the Paris Climate Agreement is facing a serious backlash – with over 1,200 governors, mayors, investors, companies and universities forming a coalition to ensure the country continues to reduce its carbon emissions.
Called ‘We Are Still In’, the group – which says it represents 120 million Americans and $6.2 trillion of the US economy – includes cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Houston; big-name companies including Apple, eBay, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Nike; and social media giants Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat.
They now plan to present a pledge to the UN Convention on Climate Change highlighting their commitment to the Paris Agreement.
It’s just one of several efforts against Trump’s decision that have been announced. 13 governors have also set up a new Climate Alliance which commits states to the same global warming targets as the Agreement, while over 200 mayors have promised to match the Agreement’s goal to keep global warning to 1.5 degrees Celsius through to 2100.
Good to see there are still Americans with some sense (our opinion).
