The US President made the declaration during a meeting with the country’s governors, saying police offers who didn’t stop the gunman from carrying out the massacre earlier this month “weren’t exactly Medal of Honour winners”.
“The way they performed was frankly disgusting. I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon and I think most of the people in this room would have done that too,” Mr Trump told the group.
This from a man who needed a golf cart when other world leaders went for a stroll at last year’s G7 Summit in Sicily.
The reality is none of us know how we would react in a mass shooting – even if we had been trained to deal with such an event.
Insulting the people who do respond to these crises is not the answer.
The White House later clarified that President Trump “was just stating that as a leader, he would have stepped in and hopefully been able to help.”
How about ‘stepping in’ on gun reforms?
