Only in America: Trump says Australia has better healthcare than US – after abolishing Obamacare

0

The US President raised eyebrows last week during a meeting in New York with our very own Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull after declaring we have it better than the US.

“We have a failing health care,” Trump said. “I shouldn’t say this to our great gentleman and my friend from Australia, because you have better health care than we do.”

The comment came the same day the President and his Republican Party pushed their bill to repeal Barack Obama’s Affordable Care ACT (ACA) – which provided universal healthcare – through the House of Representatives.

Does President Trump realise we have Medicare here? Funded by our Government and taxpayers?

Americans missing out on health care

It’s estimated 24 million Americans will miss out on health care coverage by 2026 if the new bill passes the Senate.

twitter-2Later a White House spokeswoman said that Mr Trump was merely “complimenting a foreign leader on the operations of their healthcare system. What works in Australia may not work in the United States.”

Why not – because it means taxing the wealthy?

Trump also promised Mr Turnbull that he would visit Australia during his term in office. Let’s hope that also turns out to be a ‘compliment’.

As a sidenote, we couldn’t help but notice that even our own ABC News now has a dedicated Trump section on their website.

A sign of the times?
