Only in America: Trump labels visit to Holocaust memorial “SO AMAZING”

The US President has made headlines yet again this week with a message written in the Book of Remembrance at Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Museum, on his first world tour.

The infamous message
The infamous message

Written in his signature all-caps, it reads: “IT IS A GREAT HONOR TO BE HERE WITH ALL OF MY FRIENDS – SO AMAZING & WILL NEVER FORGET!”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Mr Trump for a speech “that in so few words said so much.”

A man of few words?

It shouldn’t be a surprise. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Trump administration released a statement that didn’t mention Jews.

And let’s not forget Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s remark that Adolf Hitler had never used poison gas “on his own people” while talking about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons.

The faux pas followed news that Mr Netanyahu had to order his Cabinet Ministers to attend the official greeting for Trump after some of them planned to skip the event.

The arrival had been originally scheduled to include speeches and greetings with a long list of dignitaries at Israel’s international airport, but the White House requested a short ceremony – so they could avoid the heat.
