Only in America: Trump backs Republican candidate accused of sexual assault

0

The US President has publicly supported 70-year-old Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore –recently accused of sexual misconduct and predatory behaviour against teenage girls when he was in his 30’s – saying that Moore “totally denies it” and that “40 years is a long time”, the Washington Post reports.

The Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee are both pulling their support for Mr Moore’s campaign ahead of the December 12 special election that he is running for.

Twitter – unsurprisingly – was brutal in its assessment of Trump’s dismissal of the allegations.

Mr Trump added that he is “very happy” that women are speaking out about their experiences – a reference to the number of sexual assault accusations made recently against figures in the US media and politics.

“I think it’s a very special time because a lot of things are coming out and I think that’s good for our society and I think it’s very, very good for women,” he said.

Special time?! We’re wondering if Trump’s forgotten the dozen or so women who came forward during the 2016 presidential election to say he had sexually assaulted or harassed them in their past?

No to mention his ‘bus’ video … but it’s a ‘special time’, especially with him as President.
