Led by life-long singer Dorothy Ebel, residents at Rosewood’s Leederville aged care home in Perth have been meeting every Friday morning to sing an array of older hits, including ‘Dream a Little Dream With Me’, ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head’ and ‘I Still Call Australia Home’.
The choir was set up in response to a request by a resident and Rosewood community engagement manager Naomi Scott says they’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people keen to take part with 40 to 50 participants a week including community members and staff popping in for a song or two.
“There’s something very magical about a choir like this,” Ms Scott said.
Residents agree – Rosewood couple Jim and Margaret Leavesley saying they love joining in the singing, especially when there are songs that mean something special to them.
“We’ve been married for 28 years, the second time around, so it’s just lovely that we can enjoy this together every week,” Mr Leavesley, 89, said.
Proof music really is good for the heart and soul.
