Aged care home residents beat the heat with new ice cream cart

Here’s a nice story for you sweet tooths.

The team at Bethanie’s Elanora aged care home in Western Australia had the idea to engage their residents with a fun, nostalgic and sensory treat – while also keeping residents during the warmer months.

Elanora’s crafty maintenance man, Ray Behrendt, and volunteer Barry Sisson, built the new ice cream cart from an old BBQ frame.

The cart has two lids with eskies inside to hold ice cream and icy poles and even a Bluetooth speaker to play the famous ice cream jingle ‘Greensleeves’.

And it’s has been a huge hit among residents – particularly this very happy customer who couldn’t help but dance to the memorable tune.
