A “game-changer”: NSW Govt. recognises the NSW Retirement Village Residents Association (RVRA) with $250,000 grant for Education Centre

In welcome news for current and prospective village residents, NSW Fair Trading has selected the RVRA to develop a Retirement Villages Educational Resource Centre.

The RVRA lobbied hard on the issue to Government, developing a range of printed resources for residents in retirement villages with the idea that they could flow into an online centre.

Recognition of RVRA’s strong advocacy for village residents

Craig Bennett, President of the RVRA, says that the grant will be a “game-changer” for the Association and is recognition of the role that the RVRA plays in supporting, advising, and advocating for village residents and their families.

“This potential financing will significantly accelerate the RVRA’s ability to produce professional information and advisory resources for all stakeholders in the sector,” said Craig.

“There are many positives to living in a retirement village or community, however, the over-55’s residential environment has been changing rapidly as a result of numerous factors – including:

  • The outcome of the Royal Commission into Aged Care, with in-home care becoming more the focus for the elderly.
  • The policy of ageing at home that will require retirement Village  operators and managers to develop practices to deal with medical and care needs of residents who suffer from declining physical and mental health, mobility etc.
  • Multiple, often complicated options in retirement village contracts.”
