The Narrabundah flock is facing eviction after a series of complaints around noise, hygiene and traffic disruptions – and it’s pitting neighbour against neighbour.
Some residents of a nearby retirement village have claimed they are being bullied for supporting the birds, while another pro-peacock family had their house vandalised after environmentalists wrongly assumed they were ‘anti-flock’, according to the ABC.
The issue has ruffled so many feathers (sorry, can’t help myself), the ACT Government has now developed a management plan that includes a recommendation to euthanise the birds – a threat that has led a pro-peacock petition to attract nearly 1,500 signatures.
There is one solution we like being put forward by local bird society member and ‘peacock moderate’ Geoffrey Dabb however – send the birds to live at Parliament House.
“They’d be a good mixture. The politicians and the peacocks would go very well together,” he said.
Problem solved.
