Aged care provider to offer free flu shots for residents, staff and their families

Masonic Care Tasmania will provide all its staff, volunteers and residents – along with two of their family members – up to 5,000 people – the opportunity to be immunised for free.

The Tasmanian not-for-profit offered over 500 of its staff free flu shots last year, but after the terrible flu season – when over 220,000 people were infected – they decided to expand the program.

Flu kills around 3,000 people a year in Australia with the elderly and the young the most vulnerable.

With a new poll by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia showing one in two Aussies don’t plan to get vaccinated against the flu this year, it’s great to see providers doing what they can to help.

As we covered here, the Federal Government has fast-tracked two enhanced vaccines that will be available from April onwards.

Why not protect yourself and your loved ones?

Timing of the vaccine is critical so speak to your GP about when you should be vaccinated.
