96-year-old Eric Tweedsdale and 94-year-old Enid Bradshaw had originally met in Sydney at the Merrylands RSL in Sydney and become engaged, but drifted apart when Mr Tweedsdale served in the Second World War.
Both married and had children with new partners.
But in 2004, they met again at a reunion at the Club and when Mrs Bradshaw decided to move to Cooinda Village retirement village in Umina Beach, close to Mr Tweedsdale’s home, their romance restarted.
Today, the couple lives in neighbouring self-care units at the village.
“We decided to have our own units, with our own things, but spend lots of valuable time with one another, talking about our time apart and the times we had together when we were young,” Mrs Bradshaw said.
“We both believe it was just meant to be,” Mr Tweedsdale adds.
A real-life happy ending then.
