Fifty of the tactile woollen hand muffs have been donated to not-for-profit aged care provider Peninsula Villages by the Forresters Beach craft group on the Central Coast.
The hand muffs are used to keep residents hands occupied and relieve the anxiety that is often associated with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and arthritis.
A number of Peninsula Villages’ residents in their memory care units make use of the muffs, and staff say they have huge benefits, particularly for residents who may not be responding to traditional support strategies.
“Many dementia patients are set in their daily habits and any disruption from their routine can cause them to become very stressed, resulting in restless hands. Twiddle muffs provide great comfort to these residents, helping relieve their anxiety,” Chief Executive Officer Shane Neaves said.
