As we covered here, the administration took down the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website in April, saying its resources were being updated “to reflect EPA’s priorities under the leadership of President Trump”.
Now some of the climate websites have returned to the EPA site – with all mention of ‘climate change’ removed.
According to The Environmental Data and Governance Initiative (EDGI), the site had featured a range of resources to help state and local governments develop climate change policies and use more renewable energy sources.
Now that site is a page on “energy resources” including a “Clean Energy Finance Tool”, with around 15 mentions of the word ‘climate’ deleted from the main page.
Links to pages such as the “State Climate Action Framework”, “Local Climate Action Framework” and “Climate Showcase Communities” have also disappeared.
Scientists and environmentalists have slammed the changes, saying they hide the facts about global warming.
“At a time when Americans have lost their loved ones and their homes to floods and fires, are living without fresh water or electricity, and are experiencing multi-billion-dollar disasters exacerbated by climate change, this is not the time to impede public access to critical climate change information,” Gretchen Goldman, research director at the Center for Science and Democracy Gretchen Goldman said.
