10 residents at the Whiddon Group’s Hornsby aged care home have paid a visit to the Gosford Classic Car Museum as part of a new concept that the not-for-profit provider is rolling out across its homes.
Part of the My Life program, ‘Best Week’ is a way of introducing tailored and meaningful activities into Whiddon’s aged care homes, allowing residents to achieve their personal goals, relive old hobbies or tick off items that might be on their ‘bucket list’.
The Museum was chosen to fulfil resident Tony’s wish list – he has a strong connection with cars, having worked and owned service stations for many years.
The Group’s Relationship Based Care Programme Manager Vicki Coumbe says the program is designed to be inclusive of all residents, even those who may have an illness, disability or mobility issues.
“No one is left out,” she said. “Everyone has the opportunity to go out and do a special activity which is catered to their individual needs.”
Sounds like fun to us.
