Only in America: Trump tweets against Iranian missile test video – turns out to be fake

You’d think the US President would have his hands full threatening a nuclear attack on North Korea, but he couldn’t resist making his opinion known this week when Iranian state TV tweeted a video of a ballistic missile test.

“Iran just test-fired a Ballistic Missile capable of reaching Israel. They are also working with North Korea. Not much of an agreement we have!”

But according to Fox News the footage was actually seven months old and showed a failed test when the missile exploded after lift-off.

While a missile was rolled out for a parade, it was – put simply – fake news.

But as New York Magazine points out, it’s not the first time Trump has used a fake video to paint a picture of Iran as out-of-control.

During the 2016 election, he repeatedly referred to footage that claimed to show bags of cash being unloaded from a US aircraft in an Iranian airport. In reality, it showed Americans getting off a plane.

We’re guessing it won’t be the last though, especially with news that Twitter is trialling doubling its character limit on tweets from 140 to 280.

Twice as much Trump? No thanks!
